Why does genius send information to apple

I just deleted all Apple. The Genius feature was not unchecked and so I didn't have to turn it back on. When I synched my iPhone, the Genius update occurred took about 30 seconds for or so songs and no more sending Genius info to Apple. I'll make a note of this and I'll know what to do if it happens again.
