Consecration of the King is a thousand-year-old tradition in Norway. The ceremony is a solemn, ecclesiastical blessing of the King in the performance of his royal duties. Article 6 of the Constitution stipulates the order of succession to the Throne. A state visit is an official visit by one head of state to another. When foreign heads of state make state visits to Norway, they are the guests of The King and Queen.
Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses represent Norway on official visits abroad, also on occasions other than State visits. The Royal Family conducts many audiences each year. Secondly, it is to make sure that the constitutional rules that determine the relationship between the Storting and the Government are observed.
Other than that, however, she has the same rights as any other Member of Parliament. In addition to presiding over the sittings in the Storting Chamber, the President and the Presidium manage the planning of the sittings. Even though the President of the Storting has a different role from other MPs with regard to her day-to-day political duties, she may nevertheless take part in the political debate and is a leading spokesperson for Norwegian democracy and for spreading democratic values.
This responsibility lays the basis for a large portion of her external activities.
