Where is apartheid museum in johannesburg

The cost of the construction of what became the Apartheid Museum - approximately 80 million rand — was paid for by Gold Reef City. The museum is registered as a Public Benefit Company incorporated not for gain with an independent board of trustees, the chairman of which is Dr John Kani. The company is independent of Gold Reef City, which has leased the museum to the Public Benefit Company for the duration of the casino licence.

The museum therefore relies on donations, contributions and sponsorships to sustain its growth. Here you can also take a trip down a gold mine stop No 6 on the City Sightseeing bus route. The company also offers a 2 -hour whistle-stop tour of the township of Soweto as an add-on to its regular route. A totally one-sided brainwashing; very damaging to especially, young, impressionable minds eg. The overall impression given is erroneous and racist in the extreme, and most damaging to the image of the country as vibrant a new democracy, where all minorities have extended the hand of reconciliation.

May this history never be repeated again. MyGeld Paarl, South Africa contributions. We from SA, Brazil and the USA experienced an atmosphere of anger and hatred - starting with rude staff at the ticket office, unnecessary racial classification of tourists as "white" or "black", lack of mobile recorders for Spanish, German, etc. A lot of the exhibition takes time to read the very small print0 and staff tended to shuttle us around to what we "must see", etc.

Would have like to also see a presence of the many many white South Africans who also contributed towards fighting apartheid. Seshu K New Jersey 16 contributions. South Africa and the whole world should be ashamed of this Museum. This is one of the worst piles of garbage I have ever seen labeled as a Museum. This is not a museum that chronicles history of progression of mankind from a state of ignorance and apathy to an age of understanding, wisdom and equality, but rather a pileup of racial hatred and all that was bad about the South African History.

The staff are black South African and unlike other South Africans these individuals are rude and behave as if they are forced to work there as slaves. The museum is is just an unsorted collection of blown up visuals that make no sense and defy depth of perception in such close range. All the items are cluttered and most of the contributions made by Non-Black South Africans was conveniently omitted.

For example Mahatma Gandhi and many Indian leaders of 20th century who contributed to the freedom of South Africa. Bushkid0 Pretoria, South Africa 1, contributions. The Apartheid Museum belongs where the rest of Apartheid should be - at the bottom of the sea. This place reeks of misinformation and biased and inflammatory propaganda, and is designed to further polarise communities in South Africa particularly school children. It is simply used to justify the reverse racial discrimination that is currently practiced in SA.

How I would love to see these edifices celebrating oppression and the subsequent "freedom from oppression" destroyed and obliterated from our landscape all together, instead of constantly being used as an excuse for not having forged the unified South Africa that we all hoped for.

Oceangypsey Gauteng, South Africa contributions. Move forward people! Stop looking back! Make your own memories. Build something. Create jobs then you will feel better about the past. Stop blaming other people for your problems in ! Lionel P Johannesburg, South Africa 1 contribution. Ute23 Acworth 7 contributions. Sadly, one of the most boring museums I have ever been to. Inwas really looking forward to this museum and so were my boys aged 9 and We were so disappointed.

The museum required a lot of reading. There is nothing interactive for kids to do. The few videos are so specific that people lacking the context would not get much out of them.

The museum seems to think that everyone is already familiar with the overall history of Apartheid and gets very specific without properly introducing the subject. The entire museum concept should be reworked. TerryTyler Albuquerque, NM 32 contributions.

This place is an attempt to compare the apartheid period to the holocaust.
